So you've had a great new website built and now it's time to get some traffic. One of the first things you want to do is start improving your seach engine rankings but with so many agencies out there claiming they're specialists in this field, how do you know who's talking sense and who's mumbling rubbish?

Here's 5 things a so say "SEO Specialist" may babbel when trying to convince you they know the difference between their backlinks and backsides.

1.  "We can get you on page 1 almost immediately".

2. "We will give you hundreds of keywords".

3. Adding disguised links will boost your ranking (Bad practice! Likely to get you blacklisted).

4. "We'll build X amount of backlinks per month".

5. Getting a brand new url ranking well in very little time.

Any SEO specialist worth their salt will explain that with so many variables with search engines themselves, so they cannot possibly guarantee a position and also it's very much an ongoing activity over many months as opposed to a set rules to apply to get to the top quick.

Also they will make it very clear that it's all about quality not quantity, thousands of rubbish backlinks will get you nowhere. And ridiculous amounts of keywords will do you no good at all.

SEO is a very precise combination of backlinking, backlink analysis, blog writing, keyword analysis and content writing and rewording, which if done well can set you in good stead for the future and your business will reap the rewards.

On the other hand, bad SEO can have an adverse effect and possibly do some serious damage so be warned! Do your research and you won't go far wrong.

Good luck

Nathan :)

It may sometimes seem like yet another blog that is trying to sell the 'latest and greatest' yet it is more a look at Internet Marketing through the eyes of a cynic who has no plans to max out his card by buying in to the 'next big thing' and the next one and the next one ....
